A Complete Lighting & Control Solution Delivered by Architainment
At Clerkenwell Design Week 2024, Jestico + Whiles and Bolon unveiled PLUS—a sculptural installation that transformed from a tactile, material-focused form by day into a fully immersive light experience by night. Architainment worked alongside Studio Fractal to design, supply, programme, commission and remotely support the entire lighting and control system that powered the installation.
The sculpture itself was crafted from repurposed offcuts of Bolon flooring, creating layered, organic forms that visually resembled oversized digital pixels. These surfaces became a dynamic canvas once illuminated, with coloured light adding movement, depth, and mood. Visitors could walk through, interact with, and even reconfigure elements of the installation, creating a rich and engaging experience.
Architainment delivered a comprehensive technical solution that included: · Architape Opaline RGB luminaires, selected for their soft, diffused output ideal for sculptural highlighting · Pharos LPC lighting controller to manage the complex dynamic playback
· Full programming and commissioning, ensuring lighting effects aligned precisely with the artists’ intent · Remote monitoring and system support via the ArchiCloud platform, enabling real-time oversight, diagnostics and adjustments throughout the installation period
In line with the project’s circular design ethos, all luminaires used for PLUS were the same Architape Opaline RGB units previously deployed in the Fata Morgana installation at CDW 2023. Following the event, all fixtures were returned to Architainment’s warehouse for future reuse, and the timber structure was repurposed into a pavilion at Coal Drops Yard for the London Design Festival.
Through expert design integration, robust control infrastructure, and remote monitoring capabilities, Architainment helped ensure PLUS delivered a seamless and captivating visitor experience—demonstrating how complete lighting and control solutions can elevate temporary installations to new creative heights.
